Yoroiden Samurai Troopers is an anime written by Ryƍsuke Takahashi and produced by Hajime Yate, a pseudonym of several staff members of Sunrise animation. It first aired in Japan from April 30, 1988 to March 4 1989 on Nagoya Broadcasting Networking with 39 episodes and three OAVs, and several Drama CDs, a manga, artbooks, and a crossover video game with Ragnarock Mobile. The story goes that 1000 years ago, Arago, the emperor of doom sought to control Earth when Kaos, a member of an ancient clan bravely fought against him and split his armor into nine armors. Each of these armors was imbued with a type of virture. Five of these armors went to young men who would become the sole protectors of humanity against the Emperor of Doom. The other four armors went to four men who would become Arago's Masho (Warlords of Doom). Arago is hell-bent on claiming back his nine armors and will stop at nothing to get them. The series is a bit darker in tone than its counter-part Ronin Warriors, with the setting taking place in Tokyo, Japan rather than in Toyama. In the beginning the Samurai Troopers aren't united in spirit and don't officially work together as a team until Nasuti Yagyu convinces them they cannot defeat Arago and the Empire of Doom of unless they do. This sets off a course that sends the Troopers learning to team up with one another and battling their way across Tokyo to defeat the Empire while learning about the origins of their armors, their own-selves, and each other in a story of friendship, loyalty, and sacrifice.

Samurai Trooper poem
Endure the immortality of Mt. Fuji's fire
Swirling waters you lie in a distant place
The light blossoms when in the darkest prison
Winter comes to the snowy mountain
as he lies floating through the sky.
